These are the modules that allow your device to communicate so that you can gather data.  Typically, only one of these is used at a time for each Main Processor

USB Serial Slave

Allows the Main Processor to communicate to a PC using a virtual COM port

4-20mA Power Supply/Controller

Powers the module system off of the 4-20mA loop power and allows the Main Processor the ability to control the loop current.

Ethernet

Allows the Main Processor to communicate over Ethernet using TCP/IP

RS-232/RS-485

Allows the Main Processor to communicate to external devices using RS-232 or RS-485
